Ian's 747 Story

“I'm an aviation enthusiast living in Manila. About a year ago, I was browsing through the internet and came upon the story of Qantas doing the last round of domestic flights in the Boeing 747. Without hesitation, I booked myself on my first Australian trip just to be on it. The flight was scheduled for February 17, 2020, on flight QF400 from Melbourne to Sydney. Looking at the flight number I said to myself, how aptly designated it was for the Series 400.

On the day of departure at Melbourne, at 5 AM, aviation enthusiasts were all up, waiting at the gate. It was quite an experience! We were all complete strangers who just so happen to share the same passion for the 747. I met some of the nicest people and bonded by sharing aviation stories while taking photos. After the seat belts sign was switched off, many went around. Unfortunately, I just don't have the heart to wake my seatmate as it seems she was so tired. I somehow felt fulfilled as the nice flight attendant in the photo made sure my specially made poster and my personal flight log got signed by the crew to remind me of my trip.

I was supposed to go back for the last flight, unfortunately, COVID happened. I just can admire from afar how special the flights were and just content myself with my flight experience last February.
